X-Men: First Class
Certainly the most satisfying summer blockbuster so far, “X-Men: First Class” breath away with its spectacular action scenes and scenario developed. Of what to make to forget the third horrible episode and the ordinary diverted one “Wolverine”.
Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) is a dark individual, who dreams of a Third World War in which man will be destroyed, leaving the planet to be genetically modified. To stop, Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and his partner Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) decided to combine a strong team.
George Lucas has opened a Pandora’s Box in 1999 with the release of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” has popularized the “prequels”, these stories that take place before the action that the viewer already knows. A fashion that never seems to end and that has been overused in recent years. In the case of “X-Men” was beneficial. After two very good tracks produced by Bryan Singer, the series was getting nowhere. Brett Ratner has practically destroyed all the interest of the franchise with the third volume, and the work of Gavin Hood on “Wolverine” was little shinier.
This return to roots can anchor more firmly the causes and motivations of characters, anchoring it intelligently in the historical reality of the Nazi camps during the Second World War to the Cold War between the U.S. and the USSR. Details that are not negligible and even prove necessary. For once you can feel that the work of six writers was not in vain. The protagonists are three-dimensional, does not akin to simple sketches of comic books. Their suffering is palpable, going beyond all the “Thor” on the planet.
Contract to construct Matthew Vaughn has been a wise choice. Although this is not a “great” film maker with its own brand name as Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Sam Raimi and Ang Lee’s previous efforts speak for themselves: the amazing “Layer Cake”, “Stardust” and the hilarious “Kick-Ass”. Here he is in his natural element to treat his dialogues without skimping on its ubiquitous moments of bravery. A balance that is practically always to the point, and that see itself enriched with a toning one pinched of humor and of some savors winks.
The scope of the casting for many plays in the equation. James McAvoy spring can be the first number, the beautiful young face, yet it is not him that draws attention. Michael Fassbender but that ignites the screen. The actor has such a presence that nothing seems to stop it. It is also nice to see that Kevin Bacon has not lost the hand, camping with a wicked delight absolutely delusional. More roles in high school, a young Jennifer Lawrence dominates distribution that is not bitten the worms, little face of Rose Byrne and January Jones will melt the male, while Oliver Platt provides his smile.
Far from an “Inception” or “Dark Knight” in the category of “best summer entertainment possible”, “X-Men: First Class” is emerging as a first-class. It has action to spare, a story clearly more developed than accustomed, some comical ways out, of very vouchers interpret and even an end big open for a continuation. To be classified in the same category as two works by Bryan Singer who suddenly become more complete.
