We Bought a Zoo

Nice excursion on earthlings who dream of a better tomorrow, “We Bought a Zoo” gets rid of its agreements with touching characters, a wrap-around tone and a soundtrack of the property to the soul.

To provide a bit of peace to his two children who are still afflicted by the death of their mother, Benjamin (Matt Damon) decides to drop his employment as a journalist and purchase a zoo! There a few months to rehabilitate and restoration costs are enormous. The widower may still rely on a dedicated team, including the Kelly (Scarlett Johansson) babysitters who aggressively work.

At a time of year when the big guns invade the screens, it is curious to see what will happen to “We Bought a Zoo” which is a feature trompe l’oeil. At first glance, this true story is like the classic story and waited for the little family is going to bring a sudden hardship, courage, who will cement at the very end. A work too long and sentimental, the obvious moral and supported, which could wear out the patience of moviegoers with his cynical realization formatted and good humor assumed.

Yet it is easy to see anything if you put a little patience and staying good player. The filmmaker Cameron Crowe wanted to create a fable about hope and the beauty of life … and it got there. Everything in the film is seduced and feels the heart. He comes to fill gaps between people who love each other and help nature by coming to the rescue of abandoned animals. The director is also to feel the nostalgia, returning to that first kiss, telling the meeting between mom and dad with extraordinary tenderness. A mixture of sensations and emotions that make you dream and are quick to make sad eyes. Especially since the whole is bathed in the beautiful soundtrack Jonsi, lead singer of Sigur Ros.

This is a funny and sunny fairy tale which is worn by the performance of all its interpreters. Yes, the secondary characters are not always well developed and caricature is never far away. Except that Matt Damon and Scarlet Johansson have rarely offered as tender and sensitive performance. They are well supported by a sparkling distribution that includes the hilarious Thomas Haden Church in materialistic brother and the always outstanding it fanning in smile teenager crisp.

Although Cameron Crowe once again resume its traditional mantra that “change is beneficial and even necessary to reconnect with the foundations of existence,” “We Bought a Zoo” approaches fortunately its cute “Jerry Maguire” as its boring “Elizabethtown”. Despite all the limitations of this formula, the magic happens and it ends up leaving a beatific smile on the lips. Only for this reason, the effort is worthy of his existence.
