“The Tree of Life” and “Beginners,” tied for best film at Gotham Awards
The juries of the Gotham Awards, an annual ceremony held by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) for the independent films released in the year to the United States, have failed to decide. “The Tree of Life” and “Beginners” are thus rewarded each on their side of the title of best film.

“Beginners”, written and directed by Mike Mills, and “The Tree of Life”, written and directed by Terrence Malick, faced “The Descendants”, “Meek’s Cutoff” and “Take Shelter” in the category of best film.
“Beginners” starts with the price of the best overall performance (Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Melanie Laurent, Goran Visnjic, Kai Lennox, Mary Page Keller, Keegan Boos).
The Best Documentary was awarded to “Better This World” by Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane.
Dee Rees was awarded the prize for best hope to achieve for his film “Pariah.”
Felicity Jones leaves with the prize for most promising, interpretation category for her role in “Like Crazy”. The film “Scenes of a Crime” won the prize for best film that has not been presented in a theater near you. Finally, the film “Girlfriend” leaves with the audience award.
