The Roommate
Who would not at least one day in his life living in roommate? But we must be careful who you end up. It learns to his cost that a poor young student in “The Roommate”, a suspense flat and smooth with no psychological value. The equivalent of a magazine of cosmetics for 90 minutes.
Sara (Minka Kelly) has just started studying fashion. She will share her room with Rebecca (Leighton Meester), a daughter to look wise and harmless. Gradually unhealthy friendship emerges between two roommates. Rebecca did everything to break the circle of friends of Sarah, and when it begins to realize it is already too late …
The film buff in the long memory. It is able to remember hundreds of movies, even if they are not all classics. Directed in 1992 by veteran Barbet Schroeder, “Single White Female” marked the spirits. Despite its many flaws, this thriller was pretty well oiled in suspense while offering high confrontation between Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Nearly two decades later, Hollywood producers think the public does not remember that movie, and they can offer a substitute unflavored or imagination.
Well, they did and it’s called “The Roommate”. The basic scenario of this case is significant clinical pathology and interesting. The lack of friendship in a human who pushes the jealousy and obsession remains a hot topic inspiring. Provided it is treated with respect, it allows to plunge into the darkest corners of humanity to film its gaping holes and wants to be loved. Psychological concepts that are completely outside the narrative is like a long episode of “Beverly Hills”.
Over the first 30 minutes saturated dialogue and challenging any interpretation, a shower scene in “Psycho” made its appearance. The sequence is so absurd that the viewer wonders whether to actually take everything literally or, rather, poor effort is a huge joke to inspire derision. But no. The book seems to adhere completely to the first degree, while the staging of soporific Christian E. Christiansen does not help. This could be a derivative of enjoyable “Scream” (Billy Zane in a supporting role is a very promising character) but it looks more like an “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with friends.
Not surprisingly, “The Roommate” has received no screening for the press. A curious audience of the trailer take a chance, and in many cases it may go out and be reimbursed after half an hour to go see something more interesting. Although several tests are shown in the unconscious while watching (“Basic Instinct”, the “Chloe” by Atom Egoyan and “Jennifer’s Body”), comparisons are certainly not to the advantage of this failure.
