The Mechanic

Moribund remake of a bad movie of the 1970s, “The Mechanic” sees Jason Statham always embody the same role. A feature that may interchangeably only appeal to fans of Sir.

The Mechanic movie

Arthur (Jason Statham) is an assassin who shows the ropes to Steve (Ben Foster) who seeks to avenge the death of his father. Through their collaborations of the wicked will die, but a final revelation could undermine their friendship.

The memory is sometimes selective. Nobody wanted anyone to touch “Psycho”, but “The Mechanic”, why not. Who really remembers what turnip that allowed Michael Winner Charles Bronson to play the bad guy by pulling in the heap? Unlike a “True Grit”, the original material had little quality … and should not be surprising that imitates its variation on this point.

Especially at a time such as 21th century when the moviegoer has seen and heard dozens of much better times. Aware that he would not be faced with an album as fascinating as “The American”, what is not surprised to receive his full mouth something as questionable as “The Specialist”. A test that favors action, but not surprised at the stunts and confrontations, and the effect of suspense is at its lowest. A barbarity which refrains from being too scathing, taking himself seriously instead of assuming its full irony and second degree.

This is especially sad with this scenario that seeks to renew the genre. A deep breath odor permanently on the characters, before evaporating too quickly. Anyone who wanted to see more of the excellent Donald Sutherland and Tony Goldwyn on the screen or the friendship of the two heroes is most successful. Because before a Ben Foster, who is always perfect to be unbalanced, it is a commonplace Jason Statham who is featured on the autopilot.

The story is, however, his main vehicle, which allows him to triumph with his fists. But it embodies a carrier, a mechanic or a heart transplant, the ordinary heroes never feel the need to change facial expressions, which ultimately wearying. Of course fans of the first hours rightly pointed out that their idol showed some talent in “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “The Bank Job”, except that before a Dwayne Johnson, who has managed to evolve in the slightest ” The Faster”, the other gentleman muscle crusts to eat to catch up.

“The Mechanic” 2011 version will come in no way meet the filmography of the director Simon West who, since his entertaining “Con Air” in 1997, never ceases to disappoint (“The General’s Daughter,” the first “Tomb Raider”) . After the remake of “When a Stranger Calls”, it should perhaps learn that the remake is perhaps not his cup of tea.
