The Hunger Games

The output “The Hunger Games” is not expected before March 23, 2012 but the studio Lionsgate is already courting a writer to write the second part. Simon Beaufoy, Won an Oscar for the screenplay adapted from “Slumdog Millionaire” is the focus of Lionsgate to script the “Catching Fire,” the second installment of this series of three books about the adventures of Katniss Everdeen, played on the big screen by Jennifer Lawrence.

The director Gary Ross (“Seabiscuit,” “Pleasantville”) would return as well. He planned to write the screenplay for the second film with author Suzanne Collins, but the agenda of post-production will not allow him to accomplish this task. The starting date of shooting of this second part has not yet been announced but the studio is one of his top priorities.


Negotiations with Beaufoy have not started yet, but Lionsgate is working hard to convince this writer who was also nominated for Academy Awards for the scenarios of “Full Monty” and “127 Hours”.

“The Hunger Games” takes place in a post-apocalyptic America controlled by the Capitol, a repressive government. Game shows where teenagers must fight to death; “Hunger Games” are organized every year. Participants were randomly selected among the twelve districts of the territory and must kill each other until the last. Katniss Everdeen is one that will fight to the last breath to survive.


Distribution is also composed of Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, Willow Shields and Lenny Kravitz.
