Liam Neeson dominates a beautiful male distribution in “The Grey”, a film a bit long survival who eyeful with its spectacular action scenes. After that, nobody will want to go for a walk in the woods.

Filmmaker Joe Carnahan is capable of the best and the worst. He in had impressed more than one with “Narc” in 2002. Since that time, it accumulates the dubious achievements (“smokin’ ‘Aces”, “The A-Team”), lending his pen to topics more or less inspiring (“Pride and Glody”). He has finally pulled them together, returning to the drama in a beautiful manner. Despite a premise which is not new and is reminiscent of “Alive”, “The Edge” and even “The Way Back”, “The Grey” is far from negligible.

First we feel a personal tone, the presence of a real director. The balance between action and exploration of the characters are generally well balanced. The whole is interspersed with returns in time to alleviate emotional tension. What could easily have been an effort in one dimension is gradually taking additional layers, so that individuals and their actions are enhanced by attendance – a kind of ghost – who roams with them.

The staging also offers some impressive moments of tragedy. Turns the plane crash, a plunge into the void and the other in ice water monopolize the attention, giving shivers down my spine as the realism is striking. They are there to remind the strength of this human drama, just like the wolves that represent the fears and challenges to beat. The metaphor is not always subtle, but it is very effective.

A certain floating appears after an hour, it becomes not too unfortunate. The quality of interpretation is to save the furniture. After an incredible amount of bad films, Liam Neeson is back in the right path, offering performance even more vigorous than he engaged in the surprising “Unknown”. He is well surrounded by a more competent distribution which includes Dermot Mulroney and Frank Grillo.

Ignoring a basic idea of a proven and trailer unconvincing, “The Grey” delivers the goods, holding in suspense until the end. The effort would, however, had even more impact if he had the poster in the warmer months of June or July. With the cold and snow room, be persuaded by a two-hour movie where men trying to survive in extreme weather conditions and weather outside may not be easy…
