The Green Hornet

Michel Gondry will surprise many with “The Green Hornet”, a superhero comedy and fun swirling that has absolutely nothing to do with some trailers shown in theaters. Quality entertainment while waiting for a new thaw.

The Green Hornet movie

At its output on the screens last year, “Kick-Ass” has attracted many viewers by making fun of codes of superhero movies. Originally one of the most famous parodies of the genre was “The Green Hornet”, a derivative of “The Lone Ranger” who became aware of the 1930 through Fran Striker and George W. Trendle. Several films and TV series later (who could forget the one that featured the famous Bruce Lee?), Landed here as the creator of the delightful version of “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind”.

The Green Hornet is now the features Seth Rogen and his faithful partner, those of Jay Chou. Together they seek to fight crime in Los Angeles while trying to seduce a beautiful reporter (Cameron Diaz).

What he did good in the world of Michel Gondry is his ability to bring out the child hidden in the heart of the moviegoer. While not perfect, its nice “The Science of Sleep” and “Be Kind Rewind” proved eerily familiar, and it is the same for this new project. One can easily imagine the filmmaker returning back to childhood play in his sandbox, creating titanic struggles between his snowmen, Lego and others. This type of fighting without head or tail is legion here, with its slow and pretty ingenious three-dimensional effects, until this crazy conclusion that the prosecution seem to last an hour. There is nothing to take seriously, you just reconnect with his heart, the same who was entranced by “Tron: Legacy”.

The introduction, however, is slow to start. It should encamp colorful characters, the climate is totally misplaced and absurd situations. As if Batman was reviewed and corrected with malice but without too much cynicism, was presented as a lazy man who is constantly saving his skin by sidekick. Cliches that populate such stories (the good ones who are not that much, the sense of duty, the revelations late, etc..) Diverted properly, as well as the biting criticism of journalism in a plot secondary has as much interest as the main narrative.

History is what is often an excuse used to give a reason for actions of the protagonists. Perfect in the title role, Seth Rogen does not freed in its image of party animal control, the operator at the bottom with a beautiful naivety. It is also found in the game Jay Chou has been noticed in the underrated “Curse of the Golden Flower”. Their complicity is undeniable, and if successful, result should be released very soon. This lesson of friendship that takes a lot – too much? – Space does not Cameron Diaz shine in the skin of a character device, and the suave Christoph Waltz (the villain of “Inglourious Basterds”) to camp a hilarious villain worthy of “Die Hard 3″.

Limiting its stylistic excesses while letting its paw on the final product, Michel Gondry has managed to thwart all expectations by creating a good-natured fun, harmless but still very creative, whose appearance hides a cartoonish violence that is far be negligible, engaging characters and several serious themes discussed with irony. A distant cousin to the more cheeky “Scott Pilgrim vs.. The World”.
