Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

The geeks will be in seventh heaven with “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, a cute romantic comedy that brilliantly blends rock music, manga and video games. A big dose of sugar is good.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

What would a year without his delicious feel – good movie American? In 2008 it was “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”, in 2009 “(500) Days of Summer” and for the moment, “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” easily takes the top step of the podium in 2010. Anyone interested from near or far to the cinema of director Edgar Wright (the man behind the hilarious Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) will not be surprised that the master of humor has not lost his touch.

LORD beardless young adult mid-way between “Juno” and “Youth in Revolt”, Michael Cera plays Scott Pilgrim, a musician who falls madly in love with Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). To win her heart, but he must face her seven former lovers!

A priori this is the greatest fantasy film buff male under the age of 40 years. The hero clumsy attempts to seduce the girl of his dreams and he lives there still a teenager, spending nearly all his time to the arcades. An happiness every second is materialized by a great attention to detail. Numerous and in good taste, the homage to video games will react more than one, ranging from theme sound “Zelda” (in this regard, the premise is almost a layer of “The Adventure of Link”) than fighting from “Final Fantasy”, without forgetting the fighting worthy of “Mortal Kombat” or “Kung Fu Hustle” by Stephen Chow.

The director and writer had the presence of mind to leave the flowers of romance, which allows him to play in both teams and steal the attention of all audiences. While not particularly innovative, the scenario is relatively well the road. All thanks to these percussive dialogues which almost always the target, and this scene alive scrambles assembly (reality, dreams and fantasies do sometimes more than one) while bathing the eyes and ears of the effects Special cheerfully kitschy and melodies.

Like any story quests and steps, the pace tends to falter mid-term review. See Scott Pilgrim beaten up seven frustrated love is sometimes a bit long, especially the care provided to individuals tends to crumble before the end. However, there are enough winks successful (in that “Seinfeld” is twisting) as time goes by quickly. Especially the interpretation of the core goes to the irresistible at the speed of lightning. While the lovely couple formed by Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead dominates the plot, they are all delicious secondary characters who give it a stature, thick. They are numerous and priceless, Anna Kendrick in controlling sister to Kieran Culkin in homosexual roommate, via Chris Evans, who handles the irony imbued with the actor himself and Jason Schwartzman, who portrays an ugly gold.

Drawing on merits in the nostalgic imagination, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” goes even further than the previous “Kick – Ass” entertain the audience with intelligence and efficiency, without ever giving in to too flashy and obvious effects. Perhaps the feature most underrated vitamins since “Speed Racer”.
