Saw 3D
What would a Halloween party without a new episode of “Saw”? Saving a miracle, no doubt. This is not the case with the 2010 release of “Saw 3D: The Final Chapter” that exists only to satisfy fans of the genre. It is not because there is much blood that’s good, quite the contrary.
There are lost causes. Since the relative success of the first “Saw” in 2004, a new franchise was born, competing mediocrity to offer the worst consequences as each other, tying certainly those of “Freddy” and “Police Academy”. When the moviegoer feels he hits bottom, the ground disappearing beneath his feet again, for the lead even further. A new leap in the dark is done with this latest result of a license that seems indestructible.
Just change the number (the seventh, in this case), the story remains the same. This time the survivors of Jigsaw are in danger. His apprentice is unstoppable again in freedom and they will see in all colors. No matter that the police are after him, nobody seems unable to escape his evil machinations that mutilate everything in their path.
Evaluate “Saw” is like criticizing “Jackass” and other films of the same caliber: they are products designed specifically for pre-sold audience. We must accept the codes (often unbearable violence which does not skimp on details, the many ellipses that indicate time screenwriters to superior intelligence, the implausible situations, etc..) And remain as objective as possible. This is not necessarily to the advantage of this painful work of Kevin Greutert, editor of all the “Saw” and director for the sixth volume.
Wherever one looks, the disappointment is live. The premise is interchangeable and there is very little evolution since its inception. The performers have no charisma and they usually deserve to make the soul. Traps proposed singularly lacking imagination, proving derivatives “classic” previously seen. The staging flashy style is stripped, threading the shock effects without any apparent logic. The humor is scarce, the narrative is taking so seriously that it becomes heartbreaking. And the list of negative enumerations could continue much longer.
The uniqueness of the book is to confront good and evil and see who has the last word. This umpteenth effort said that the Devil makes short work of his opponents, and the nihilistic mantra is not only expressed through the film, moreover, very forgettable, but its mercantile logic. For so many years, Malin concocts turnips playing with the base instincts of the viewer. Ironically, he makes more money than the real movie more serious or critical. So why should he come back on track when he can, every year, to replenish their pockets? The battle seems lost for a long time, especially when these people screaming in pleasure when a man is pulling the skin or a saw pierces the body of a woman. At least in the grand “Old Boy” by Park Chan-wook, carnage and torture had their usefulness.
Especially since this dark entity is also a lying through his teeth. Not only is this “Saw” did virtually nothing to do with the effects in three dimensions (one or two significant moments, at most), but judging its conclusion, it is certainly not “The Final Chapter” as its title indicates. There will certainly be a sequel next year. Or the traditional “prequel”. Meanwhile in the remake of the first five years at most.
