The crisis is not new. Traditional media are at a crossroads, not knowing what to do and the ways in which turn not to drink the cup. Several newspapers have already closed and the future is hardly rosy. What would happen if an institution like the New York Times had to pass the bucket? An event that makes one shudder, and which is beyond the scope of science fiction. To learn more about this thorny issue, filmmaker Andrew Rossi (“The Circus: A Table in Heaven”) has decided to go for more than one year some of its members.

The finding, dark and gloomy, does not necessarily feel like practicing this profession that has been so noble, that dream of many generations of film fans through the “Citizen Kane”, “All the President’s Men” and another ” Zodiac”. Sources of information are increasing (social media and citizens, Wikileaks, etc..), which causes a change of manners. At a time when everything seems free thanks to the possibilities of the Internet, different places have more and more difficult to demand to be paid for higher quality information, where the sources are checked and verified. What was the standard of this barely a decade ago is now disputed.

The documentary makes no apology for past or even the New York Times. It puts into perspective the reality, this important event which takes place at dinner time and is soon known to all through Twitter and Facebook, but no decline, without any perspective. The test increases the quality of players (different media) and the subjects of discussion, trying to stir up cards in the shortest time. Sometimes the connection can be more complex for a spectator started to play less ram and it can only be very few new facts to someone who is interested in the question, except that the extension is developed and work should appeal to everyone. Even if there are errors in the last part, there will always be many strong themes / lights, which this way of looking at information – just like the movies – as an industry to be paid, while its content is generally aimed at all and that will build better citizens.

Keeping your feet in reality, referring to the recent successes and failures of American journalism, the effort avoids the succession of talking heads using as few anchor reporters. The identification is done instantly to David Carr has had its share of trouble and managed to get out their heads above water. These elements more intimate, well operated watermarks, can attach to many souls. And ignites when the voltage or there are discussions of ideology (of keeping blogs for example), the consequences will follow with more interest. This breaks with a positive realization, applied, but not always original, which might have married more about the imbalance by breaking with tradition. All this could have large flames in the hands of an Errol Morris.

Very topical, “Page One: A Year Inside The New York Times” brilliantly captures the universe of a newsroom in proving a fair reflection of its time. Nobody knows where the information goes, the source of democracy, and see many people become active to bring the ship to port is a compelling example of courage and determination.
