Immortals

The great plastic beauty of “Immortals” does not prevent it from being an incredibly empty blockbuster that is unable to entertain a little bit. What good always wants to wake the gods if it is to offer them nectar undrinkable?
Theseus Immortals
The battle between good and evil is about to destroy the ancient Greeks. The evil Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) tries to get hold of a magic bow which will free the Titans, the enemies of the gods. It will find its way on the valiant Theseus (Henry Cavill) who will do anything to avenge the death of his mother and the seductive Oracle Phaedra (Freida Pinto) who will help his many gifts.

Since Zack Snyder opened the Pandora’s Box with his good “300″ by delivering up to date the mythological epic, the ancient Greek and Roman legends are almost the norm in Hollywood. There was the child’s “Percy Jackson” the disastrous remake of “Clash of the Titans” and now “Immortals” which was shot in studios in Montreal.

The scenario that mixes some ancestral tales to draw an original material respects the conventions of the genre. There is a hero with no real charisma, a villain who only kill and torture everything in its path, companions in misfortune, an endless struggle to determine its place in the universe and a host of spectacular battles but redundant, the balance between fighting and running the story are well mixed.

The main contribution of the test is to count among its ranks the filmmaker Tarsem Singh with a vision of its own universe. All the better, it helps to develop a unique and personal, though close enough in spirit to that of “300″. The director is very careful and it shows in his choice of plans and framing, the mixture of special effects very successful in developing satisfactory three-dimensional effects.

Unlike his previous “The Cell” and “The Fall”, unfortunately there is no hardware to hang. The retina is over the moon for the first 15 minutes … and it’s not bad at all. The rest comes down to the wind, a big video game stultifying and empty sense, the characters uninteresting and undeveloped talent that sabotage Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, John Hurt and Henry Cavill (the next “Superman”). By leaving the locker room humor (that is one of which gave its charm to “Thor”) and by taking terribly seriously, designers can only be related to dramatic situations that quickly become tiresome. However, the final open already announced a sequel…

Better than the remake of “Clash of the Titans” but much less enjoyable than “300″, “Immortals” is another shiny toy and completely unnecessary, even that will end the eternal child in search of thrills.
