Film Review Inception
Easily the best American film since the beginning of the year, “Inception” develops an intelligent story without getting crushed by all his action scenes. A rare commodity in these days and a success for a very original director equally comfortable in the intimate than the spectacular.
The dream. It is the source of all possibilities for a world a better place for change to occur at depth. Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his team are capable of penetrating into the unconscious for people to extract information. At the request of the influential and enigmatic Saito (Ken Wanatabe), they must carry the opposite : to enter the dreams of a wealthy heir (Cillian Murphy) to implement an idea that he founded the society of tomorrow. A mission impossible to complete, especially when old demons are constantly emerging to complicate the task.
To say that the new film by Christopher Nolan is eagerly awaited would be an understatement. The rumor runs for ages that the director of the brilliant “The Dark Knight” is developing its most personal story and that will reinvigorate this year poor good American productions. Where there are expectations, there may be disappointment, often unjustified, as was the case some years ago with Dante’s “There Will Be Blood”. By dint wait for the classical masterpiece, the moviegoer may build a dream unreachable, and it may well emerge from the screening by saying “what was that?”. However, when reviewing all for a second or third time, he will realize that ultimately it was wrong. The book fills almost all his promises, perhaps even more.
Follow this as a thriller Infernal is logical … and clumsy as it is not the expected conclusion that is worth the detour, but progress. As in all his films, the filmmaker develops hero tortured by their spirit. He lost his head in Following, continuously turning in circles (as “Memento”, an album complete without any unnecessary time), doubting his abilities (“Insomnia”) to use an unorthodox way to survive (“The Prestige”). After his long and tedious introduction to the subject on “Batman Begins”, the Batman finally unveiled its blackness and darkness, which haunted him in “The Dark Knight”. A process which is again borrowed here.
Ironically, the links are with multiple “Shutter Island”, the beautiful performance style that Martin Scorsese also featured Leonardo DiCaprio. Again do not be fooled by appearances and the love story that guides everything takes a disproportionate importance. The creatures have similar psychologies with these evils that are eating the soul, to the point of no return. More and more comfortable in this register, Leonardo DiCaprio provides again with gusto. His duet with the lovely Marion Cotillard relieves tension, finally keeping both feet on the ground in this game of high flying. The rest of the cast, spectacular hope, counting on a horde of great actors of all stripes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt to her page through Ken Wanatabe, Cillian Murphy, Pete Postlewaite, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine makes a cameo.
The scenario could evoke “The Cell”, “eXistenZ”, “Dark City” or even “The Matrix”. Comparisons that do not hold up as “Inception” is in a class by itself. The crap pseudo spiritual, philosophical and existentialist is kept to a minimum because the writer prefers to explore the complexities and possibilities of the mind, the father-son, love forever, etc. . Besides the basic idea, it is not really a sci-fi, but rather a journey into the soul and body – with the many human confrontations between different sources of noise and WBC seeking to restore or destroy the system of defense. Followers of meta-fiction will also recognize several recurring themes of Japanese novelist Yasutaka Tstusui, including those of “Paprika”, which was adapted into a spectacular animated by the great Satoshi Kon. The son drama are very similar and some scenes (particularly those in the elevator) evoke almost the tribute, the wink supported.
The viewer is not obliged to dissect the album in detail to appreciate its true value. The spectacular achievement is desire, using the memorable music of Hans Zimmer to add tension. The explosive sequences, a little too abundant and filmed in an emergency, are there to join the summer audience.
The brilliance of the company is to root this flafla a brilliant source material that never sacrifices substance if inhaled the intoxicating form. Not only is it possible to be glued to his seat in the multiple comparisons (fighting without gravity does not soon be forgotten), except that it is never at the expense of neurons that run at full speed. The talk echoes a complicated premise and sometimes bushy … This is not really the case as the stones of Tom Thumb are clearly identified.
Critics will note that Nolan will always take so seriously and has a bit of misery to materialize his emotion. No doubt they have reason. This does not diminish the qualities of this ambitious show, which is an oasis in this time of year. The best blockbuster body and mind for “Sherlock Holmes”? Say rather since “The Dark Knight”.
