Film Review Faster

Do not rely on the trailer or poster trying to sell “Faster” with Dwayne Johnson: it’s not a big action movie stupid to cry. It’s not just the thrills that await you, but also a scenario above average, well developed characters and actors in tone. What about a surprise.

Faster Movie

Coming off the disappointing “The Expendables” a few months ago, the viewer questions about the future of the action figure while Sly Stallone and Bruce Willis others were heading slowly but surely toward the retirement home. Hollywood had it now rely only on “normal” people like Matt Damon for destroying vermin? It seems not. Reviving a style of stories he knows inside out (the one where you have to pull and crush the opponent’s head before asking questions), Dwayne Johnson can now compete with Vin Diesel as a charismatic hero who does no cold feet.

This is especially the case in “Faster”, which on paper looks like a banal series B. In the theaters for a long time, the trailer proves anything but convincing, telling the thirst for revenge of a man (Johnson) that will eliminate anyone who is found in its path. But the reality is quite different. No doubt the premise is the same and it encourages self-righteousness, but the scenario is not without humanity, seeking the underlying motivations that may lead a human being to sacrifice everything to redress injustice the past. A long road to cross, which here takes the unsuspected propensities (although there are echoes too supported the religion), even if the audience does not necessarily expect “Dead Man Walking”, “Crossing Guard” or “The 7 days the Talion”.

In addition to a much richer history than is usually available, the book delivers on the technical level. Accustomed to the medium works (“Men of Honor”, “Notorious”), filmmaker George Tillman Jr. takes care of its staging constantly playing with his lighting, while asking the great composer Clint Mansell select multiple songs occasion to give a short side 1970 to all.

The interpretation perfectly suited to the subject can only bring an additional force in the demonstration. Dwayne Johnson is like a fish in water and he knows his lines slightly nuanced. The young unknown a little too plastic that is at his heels – and answers to the name of Oliver Jackson-Cohen – finally made a good impression, like the great Billy Bob Thornton who had not played in a satisfactory way since the “Bad Santa” in 2003. Their characters begin as mere archetypes before moving on to darker areas where everything is not black or white.

Enjoyable action film that does not pretend to revolutionize this genre so popular that is the revenge film, “Faster” bowls them over by offering much more substance than a “Taken” or “The Immortal”. Good entertainment muscular, as there were plenty in the 1980s.
