Eat Pray Love

Existential drama that is sure to please the amateurs of good feelings, psycho – pop and Julia Roberts, “Eat Pray Love” Ryan Murphy is an ode to the pleasures primary, elementary and necessary. Not for all the sauces, but not bad either.

Liz Guilbert (Julia Roberts) is dissatisfied with her life line and too perfect. Thus, overnight, she decided to tackle husband, job and house to leave for a year. In Italy, India and Bali, she learns to eat, pray and love.

Director of the honest “Running With Scissors” and creator of the popular series “Nip / Tuck” and “Glee”, Ryan Murphy is embarking on another project together in implementing the best-selling book by Elizabeth Gilbert. While it is always a bit risky to compare the literature to film, fans of the book will see that there’s fire. Good, this material is directed first and foremost to them.

Other embark or disembark the ship quickly enough preaching sticky excess. Indeed, almost every word carries a particular moral and dialogues singularly lacking natural. Unless it is normal to hear a phrase such as “Divorce is full of sadness, and brings exclusion” or “the only cure is to trust” from the lips of somebody else.

Especially the messages to let go (including eating), to forgive (in prayer) and find your soul mate (in loving yourself before others) are more often than not beautiful words in the air as demonstrated lack of depth. Worst of all is that we have the means to do so. Anyone who would like to imitate the heroine and take a break of one year. But not everyone can afford the existence of bourgeois Pasha, eat and drink all day while visiting some of the most beautiful places on earth.

One should not forget that this is cinema, which includes a large dose of fantasy and escape. The filmmaker was perfectly understood by appealing to Julia Roberts that brightens the story of her most dazzling smiles. Both the actress is very comfortable in this tragicomic register, provided it is supported by a strong cast that includes Javier Bardem, Billy Crudup, James Franco and Viola Davis. But it is Richard Jenkins, who steals the show at all this beautiful world, camping out to perfection a divorcee who seeks redemption.

The whole thus ends to resemble a perfume. Attractive far but its effects dissipate too quickly. To take a certain pleasure, do not hesitate to remain on the surface, especially at these beautiful landscapes and postal cards that although a little too delicate this soundtrack by Dario Marianelli (who probably had to listen to a lot of Michael Nyman as some themes are similar) that does not always original. What stereotypical music is heard during the stay in India? The same global success of M.I.A. already included in the credits of “Slumdog Millionaire”!

Much too long for its own good (140 minutes), “Eat Pray Love” has so much ammunition that seduction and repulsion. It’s easy to get so many beautiful and naive expectations, a few intimate scenes (the returns in the past for example) show sincere moments of emotion, while the overall interpretation that the book avoids Drowning in a sea of good intentions. There is an audience for everything in the genre, it would have been much worse.
