Conan the Barbarian
We must say goodbye to the guilty pleasure of “Conan the Barbarian” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and receive so little of the charismatic Jason Momoa in this remake violent, repetitive and boring of a movie “cult” of the 1980s. Another hero of the past that failed to pass the test of time.
Since his father (Ron Perlman) was murdered by an evil being takes for God, his son Conan (Jason Momoa) decided to take revenge, tearing the arms and legs in his quest to save the honor of his own blood.
There are different reasons for wearing “Conan the Barbarian” in his heart. The original writings concocted by Robert E. Howard in the 1930s were addictive and original. While the feature film directed by John Milius in 1982 put in a good mood with its rudimentary fighting, music and unforgettable earthy performance of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was perhaps not a masterpiece, but a top quality entertainment that looks even with a big smile.
Fans feared the remake. With good reason. The filmmaker Marcus Nispel has a reputation for destroying everything in its path (he has missed the times of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th”) and here again plunder the remains of the past. Like many of his contemporaries, he sought to update a myth without understanding its essence. This gives a story often spectacular, applied directing and aesthetics, but completely empty and useless, bearing the image of three dimensional effects.
Faced with this effort, movie lovers do not expect a course in philosophy or an explanation of the meaning of life. But effective action scenes, beautiful set pieces and gory sequences. A feeling of returning to childhood, when gratuitous violence in film was socially acceptable. This is precisely what is offered in the first 15 minutes. After a delicious introduction to perfection, we are left with a young Conan that cuts the heads, being lead by his father. This feeling of well-being was not sustainable.
Once the hero as an adult, the interest is distilled completely. Any fan of the genre can accept the banality of the story, the stupidity of the dialogues and poverty of interpretation (Jason Momoa series “Stargate Atlantis” performed poorly in the title role), but not the low value of the clashes. The fights follow themselves and resemble themselves. There are too many, which has quickly fill up. And unlike a “Braveheart” or romance or humor can not change the data. The show becomes desolate, and let his brain at the door is not enough behavior as the result is tiresome and boring.
