Arthur Christmas

Animation of second category speaking almost exclusively to children, “Arthur Christmas” falls at a bad time, while the significantly more funny and charming “Happy Feat Two” and “The Muppets” are present on other screens. Why settle for a generic production when competition is of good quality?

At Christmas, everyone is entitled to his gift. When Santa (voiced by Jim Broadbent) realizes he forgot to distribute this, his son Arthur (James McAvoy) is responsible for his report. To do so, he is assisted by various companions in this adventure that will see a way to reconnect with the magic of the holiday season.

Choose a date for releasing a film on the screens is an art. While the highly anticipated feature film “Tintin” monopolize the entire month of December and yet another new episode – much less expected this one – of “Alvin and the Chipmunks” will be ready for Christmas, almost all distributors have selected the same time to exit their respective projects, aimed at the same clientele: children. There was the cute “Happy Feet Two” last Friday and it was the turn of the “Muppets”, “Hugo” by Martin Scorsese and “Arthur Christmas” to storm the halls. In the lot, as it will certainly be one that bites the dust.

And it would be quite normal. Faced with competition, he has no chance. Especially it has very little strength in his game his story predictable pervasive moral resembles a derivative of “Hoodwinked”, disguising the passage tale architecture known. And Santa Claus arrives to fulfill its mandate by using a huge flying saucer; it has two diametrically opposed to the son of one another, a father Grouch, very special elves, etc… A “new” mythology that is underutilized as a pretext intrigue primary drags on, where the likelihood is reduced to zero (the concept of time zones to be too complicated for young minds).

The gags that fall into the water and the more or less interesting characters are an animation of very uneven quality and a little rudimentary 3D effect. Nothing to change the wrong place or to swallow the pill. Knowing that they can compete with the competition in this area (especially side of so much more cute “Puss in Boots”), directors Barry Cook (“Mulan”) and Sarah Smith have capitalized on an extremely rapid pace, which is almost nausea in the first part. This is quiet a bit later, but the evil is done.

If parents are likely to gaping (especially a music video for Justin Bieber is presented in the opening), maybe their offspring will be interested in this long farce. Again, nothing is certain. When projecting held in the company of groups, children cried and did nothing but watch the story. It’s never a good sign.
