Apollo 18

Is there a life on the moon? This is the theory at the heart of “Apollo 18″, a horror thriller directed, and acted more as well, unfortunately that does not breathe and that does almost no fear.

Apollo 18

The United States continues to travel in space. Three astronauts are on board the Apollo 18 mission, with the objective of analyzing the rock surface of the moon. A difficult journey, especially when the men learn that they are not alone on the earth satellite.

There are no bad subjects, as treatments are inadequate. This is the case of this project ungrateful. Fear of the dark, of the unknown, of self and other, all this in a claustrophobic environment. It was the raw material of the classic “Alien” and its many ersatz. A concept that is revisited here with sauce “The Blair Witch Project”, with video clips found by chance, the cameras of varying quality after our heroes and a final stunned particularly mysterious.

Already, the bat injures. This method of false reality has been used far too often in recent years, and much more satisfactorily. This is what shivers of dread in “[REC]“, which made evil comfortable in “Paranormal Activity”, who brought humanity to “The Last Exorcism” and who was laughing to tears at “The Troll Hunter”. All of this is lacking in this modest production which was mired in a basic scenario, under background of conspiracy theory.

Even accepting the outliers and improbable situations in place (how many cameras can follow the characters and capture all their reactions in a place as wild and virgin?), nothing really lift up this film – a mere 75 minutes – of its slump. The story is slow to captivate and no voltage is actually developing. The attachment to the victims is difficult, and when it finally does, the end credits appeared. A gap that is combined with low induced chills. The movie is not scary, except one or two bursts, at most. What disappoint fans of the genre who can not count on a breathless story, horror live or suspicions of black humor to satisfy them.

It is a pity that the hope was to go towards this effort akin to a stretched version of the introduction of the third episode of “Transformers”. The strong cast of unknown actors is quite credible, directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (to whom we owe the great “King of the Hill”) remains more than competent, it is easy to recognize, places, the own key producer’s Timur Bekmambetov (“Night Watch”, “Wanted”). So much talent that is useless when the initial proposal is not sufficiently careful to arrive safely without drinking the cup.
