Alpha and Omega

To mark the start of school, animation films are the assault of the screens. Even if the first at the finish line, “Alpha and Omega” does not leave any lasting impression, and it turns very pale beside the small wonders of Pixar and Dreamworks.

Social classes are not only present in humans, but also within the wolves. In normal times the Alpha Kate (Hayden Panettiere) should not rub the Omega Humphrey (Justin Long). Unless they are friends and they absolutely must help each other when humans kidnap them to release them far from home. The long road to the house, especially since time is running out before a war erupts between the different tribes.

What would American cinema without Shakespeare (who, in turn, has always been heavily inspired by Greek myths)? Periodically a new implementation of one of his classics was born. There had been no “Romeo & Juliet” among the wolves? That’s it, “Alpha and Omega” arrives on the market through the directors Anthony Bell and Benjamin Gluck. All the stereotypes are back, with the moral underlined in pencil to educate the young audience that there will probably fire.

It will not be the case with his parents, leading specialists in this type of product that still have not forgotten the last episode of “Toy Story”. Why they want to bring their children while the highly anticipated “Legend of the Guardians” fate next week already? Certainly not for the quality of the animation, simplistic and rudimentary next to that of an “Ice Age”. Or technology in three dimensions, this great gadget that disappoints more often than not since the triumph of “Avatar”.

No doubt that the characters are cute. Unless they are two dimensional, never strays comfort zones. Despite the voice talents of deductions (there is still Justin Long, Christina Ricci, Danny Glover and the late Dennis Hopper), displays no being a real personality, except perhaps those two birds that do not skimp on the jokes – missed – the emphasis on French Canadian …

Everything is perfectly harmless, of course. The writers are not there to offer something out of the ordinary, but to use the same pictures again, making their own narrative of the “Bolt” which was actually not very new, and even Some highlights from “The Lion King”. If at least the pace left no room for boredom or that the humor flows freely. That may be asking too much of this product that is singularly lacking in inspiration and magic. Yet the masters of the genre are not lacking in this area.

Not necessarily boring , “Alpha and Omega” feels too much formula to warrant attention more than a few moments. This is probably not all the studios who have the means to compete with a heavyweight like Pixar, but then to completely sanitize the personality of the project? At least the banal “Balto” suggested something other than a story formatted and annoying musical numbers.
